I started using this in June last year and for the past 7 months I believe that this product has really repaired my skin. I think that this serum was one of the products apart from my other Clinique products which had repaired my skin completely. It has repaired my skin so completely that I went from having absolutely dry and parched skin to a normal, balanced skin.

This serum is orangey in colour and is not fragranced. It is very silky in texture and makes my skin feels absolutely nice and smooth immediately upon application. It absorbs really fast and I only use a teensy amount at night.

It feels gentle yet it is incredibly effective. During winter and when I initially started using this product, it wasn’t enough for me and I would normally put on my Clinique Super Rescue Night Moisturizer after it.  However, over time, using this serum alone at night has been adequate to hydrate and moisturize my skin.

At the moment, I have stopped using this product as I find it to be a bit too much for my skin to handle in the summer heat. I’m afraid that it might be a bit heavy for my skin in the summer. When winter comes, I’ll see if I still need this product or perhaps my skin has well and truly been repaired to a normal state of balance.

It is notably a rich serum so I don’t think I would recommend it for oily skin. However, it certainly worked wonders on my skin and for drugstore pricing of $39.90 (Member Price) for a tube that lasts forever, I’m certainly a pleased customer.

Review: Zuii Organic Flora Liquid Foundation

 zuiiliquid

Description: Medium coverage moisture liquid foundation with a smooth silky finish containing Calendula, Aloe Vera plus Vitamin E and C. A moisturiser and foundation in one. Non comedogenic, soothing and suitable for sensitive skins.

I am so grateful Zuii Organics sent me this for a review. This is a fantastic product! It really is!

This liquid foundation isn’t rich and is quite moisturizing, actually. It works nicely on my skin and doesn’t seem to have that heavy feeling despite having a nice and even finish. The coverage is good, I’d say it functions as it says, as a medium coverage foundation.

My dry skin seems to love it and the foundation stays on nice all day. I was given a Natural Fair shade which is slightly light for my skin tone, however, since I like the product, I go through an extra mile by applying a little darker shade powder on top of it to balance out the tone.

I don’t use much to cover my whole face, so a little goes a long way. The texture of the product is milky creamy but not runny at all, which is great. It also is easily blendable and wearable for me even now when the weather’s starting to get warmer.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with this, and again thank you Zuii.

There has been many mixed reviews on Benefit’s Dandelion Face Powder / Blush. I had tried it out at the counter when it was first released during a makeover session with Benefit and absolutely loved it! However, never bought it until last year (talk about perseverance, huh!) Anyway, since my first try with it, I’ve been going back and trying it on everytime I have a makeover session with Benefit and I absolutely love it.

I am actually glad that I finally bought it after many years of yearning for it.

Dandelion – a light pinkish powder can be used for many different uses: as a blush, as a brightening face powder or finishing powder.

I for one prefer to use it as a blush, but I do dust it all over my face on occassions. The powder is hard pressed and it comes packaged in a green box with a picture of a pink dandelion on top. There is also a wide brush in a plastic holder that comes with it. I detect a slightly rosy scent, very, very subtle though.

For the color to show up on my skin, I have to use 2-3 swipes of my blush brush and a hint of light rosy pink shows through which I absolutely love. The color is so, so pretty. Looks very natural too!

Using it as a face brightener, I dust a light dusting of the powder on my forehead, cheeks and chin – and the effect was a rosy and healthy glowing face.

Dandelion has a matte finish with only a slight shimmer – it is perfect for both day time and night time use if you’re after a healthy, naturally radiant look.

I’ve had Dandelion for 10 months now and it is nowhere near being finished though I use it quite often. The price here in Australia is $49, but seriously, the product lasts forever! You only need a little dusting to see the effect and maybe a couple more layers for the blush to show.

Absolutely love it!

Review: Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

 skinmd

Everyday contact with soaps, cleansers, shampoos, household chemistry and other substances that strip away skin’s own protective layer (a thin film made of natural fats, lipids), leaves the skin’s deeper layers unprotected. Without this protection in place oils and the natural moisture of the skin evaporates and absorption of irritants is no longer prevented.

Conventional lotions only add artificial moisture to the skin temporarily alleviating the dryness or itching, but these moisturizers don’t actually solve the problem, they only treat symptoms without eliminating the cause. Dry skin is unable to absorb the newly added moisture to allow repair – it does not get "locked" into the skin. It gets lost easily. That’s why we keep applying more and more of the conventional lotions. Even so, skin easily gets addicted and may even suspend production of it’s own moisture, relying on added moisturizer.

Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion, a very special type of lotion helping the skin restore its integrity, enhance its protective functions so that the skin is able to heal naturally and regain its youthful appearance. Skin MD Natural works by bonding with cells of the skin’s outermost layer to form what works as an invisible shield. This layer of protection prevents environmental irritants and pollutants from penetrating the skin, while sealing in the skin’s own natural oils and moisture, helping resolve the dry skin condition.

Skin MD Natural uses only the finest natural ingredients, and is focused on urging the skin to be active, and to use its own moisture to effectively heal itself. It is not oily or sticky, doesn’t sit on top of your skin leaving a greasy residue on everything you touch, it doesn’t rub or wash off easily, is hypoallergenic, fragrance, colorant and paraben free and dermatology tested.

It’s for Moms, Dads and Kids of all ages.
It’s an easy, safe and natural way to care for your skin throughout the day.
Every day.

21st Century Formulations recently contacted me for a review of their raved product, Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion. Last Friday, I received their promo pack and I must say, I am indeed loving this light and absolutely amazing lotion.

This lotion claims to be different to other lotions you see out there. Whilst traditional lotions you find in the market are merely hydrating the surface, Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion bonds with our skin’s outer layer and enhances it’s protecting abilities to eliminate dry skin all together.

There’s heaps of information on their website, so do check it out. Plenty of raving reviews by users and professionals alike – so there’s plenty of both technical and experiential based reviews for you to read on the benefits of this product.

This lotion is incredibly light in texture, light and milky (per my picture above). I have been religiously applying this lotion day and night for the past week and it has done tremendous wonders to my dry and sensitive skin. My skin feels very much more moistened, hydrated and incredibly silky and smooth.

The lotion is absorbed very quickly and it does so without leaving any greasy or heavy feeling. It’s very light and certainly perfect for the summer weather here in Australia.

The lotion comes in a bottle, however, as it’s texture is incredibly fluid and light, be careful not to squeeze too hard as you’ll end up with too much product. I’ve noticed that a little goes a long way and you really don’t need much at all to moisturize your whole body with.

I use that little dot size for both my arms and hands, another dot for each of my legs and another dot for my body. Since it can be also be used on the face, I have tried this as well a few nights ago (which has done wonders by the way) using half of the dot pictured above.

I must admit I was very cautious about using it on my face at first. However, I really wanted to give a fair review and seems the claim on the product says that it is usable on skin everywhere, I gave it a fair shot and am glad I did. Absolutely no reaction. My skin was smoother, softer – like a baby’s the next morning. I’m certainly pleased about that! :)

There seems to be a slight almond like scent to it, though it says that the product is unscented. However, need not worry as it is a very pleasant and subtle scent.

I’m happy that I got to try this incredibly amazing lotion during summer. I’m gonna get one for myself next winter and see if it works for me during winter as well when my skin goes absolutely amok, getting drier and more chapped with each passing day!

I’d say that if you have dry skin, this is an absolute must have. A bottle costs $18 and they ship internationally. Orders can be made from the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion website directly.

If you’re dying to give this a try, I have a 2 samples of Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion and a sample of their SPF15 version.

Write me an email at mail by Friday, 11 December and I’ll post the whole pack off to one of you lucky readers, worldwide. You can also obtain samples from their website.

Review: L’oreal De-Maq Expert Velvet Creme Wash

loreal demaq expert

For those looking for the purifying power of a foaming wash without compromising on makeup removing effectiveness, even around the eyes, and without drying the skin.

With its fresh, pure sensation and optimal makeup removal, De Maq Expert Velvet Creme Wash Expert Make Up Remover combines a rich, creamy texture with an ultra refreshing and purifying effect on the skin. Specially developed for women who love face washes, it removes all makeup, including mascara and rinses off in an instant. Perfectly cleansed, skin is purified, soft and supple with a comfortable, fresh sensation.

Immerse your skin in freshness and softness, with Velvet Creme Wash. De Maq Expert Velvet Creme Wash is concentrated in makeup removing ingredients as well as purifying foaming agents. Rich and creamy, the formula brings together practicality and makeup removing effectiveness without drying the skin.

This is a gel cream makeup remover that slightly foams as a face wash. When you squeeze a little product onto your hands and rub against it, it’ll lather slightly and then you can start lathering your face. It feels very velvety i.e. cushiony when applied and you won’t feel the lather or soapy texture that you’d normally feel with other foaming face washes, probably due to the creamy texture that it has.

I feel that it’s really good as a makeup remover as it really dissolves foundation quite quickly. It doesn’t work with waterproof eye makeup but its okay if you want to squeeze a little product out onto a cotton pad and gently rub your eyes to clean out non-waterproof mascara or eye makeup.

As a cream cleanser, it rinses out rather quickly, but for those of you who are used to washing off foamy cleansers might find this hard to wash out. I don’t think that there is any residue if you wash out properly.

It is non-irritating to my skin and I love its creamy texture and the fact that it functions well as a makeup remover. However, it is slightly scented – milky-like scented which I don’t particularly appreciate.  But overall, it is a fairly reasonable makeup removal cleanser.

Review: Olay Definity Illuminating Cleanser

olaydefinity

Olay Definity Cleansers penetrate deep into the surface to reveal skin that’s highly defined, beautifully clean and more luminous. It is ideal for skin that is dull, uneven and dry. Its rich hydrating formula gently removes micro-residue – even small traces of dirt and makeup – while rehydrating to instantly illuminate the skin.

This is a non foaming cleanser with a milky lotion texture that feels slightly grainy. I find it good to use this a few times a week (2-3) during my nighttime ritual as it is similar to exfoliation. However, using this on a daily basis caused me dryness due to the grainy, scrubby bits that it contains. Like all Definity products I’ve tried, this one also has a slightly strong scent, which is not particularly something I favour.

Having exfoliation bits in it makes my skin smooth and seems to clarify it somewhat, though I really can’t see any added luminosity or evenness with this cleanser. I don’t think a cleanser which goes down the drain in 30 seconds can make your skin brighter in an instant, but, well some people have claimed that it had.

Packaging-wise, I must say Olay didn’t pick the best form of packaging for this product. It is very badly done. It comes in a squeeze tube that sits on its cap. The bad part is, the product is dispensed by twisting the cap – not off, just a counter clockwise twist that opens up the hole in the middle of the cap where the product comes through. I hate the packaging as putting it in the bathroom causes the cap to accumulate with all the dried-out leftover cleanser gunk and also that it may accumulate whatever lies on the surface of the bathroom sink.

Hence, I make it a point to wash out the whole tube including the cap every single day and this is an obvious additional task that is not warranted had it only been packaged smartly like all other cleansers. Anyhow, needless to say, I hardly use this product anymore simply due to the packaging factor which I truly do not like. I use it only twice or thrice a week just for the sake of not wasting the product.

Whilst I’m okay with the product itself, I’d definitely not repurchase as the packaging is truly a big turn off for me.

Review: Gosh Touch Up Concealer

NYX

Description: Gosh Touch Up Concealer is the perfect product for concealing dark patches and signs of tiredness for a fresh, clear complexion. It can be used either on top of or beneath your makeup (under if using the green shade). The green concealer is especially good for hiding any red or pink patches or marks on your skin.

Using the soft pony hair brush included, dab the product on any shadows and dark areas on the face, dark lines under the eyes etc. Then smooth it out with your fingertips. The product contains no perfume.

Always choose a colour that is a couple of shades lighter than your foundation.

This is a fantastic concealer! I purchased mine in Shade 2 and is perfect for my skin tone to cover up my puffs and dark circles. After my Boi-ing concealer, I’d say this is my next favourite concealer.

The texture of this concealer is in liquid form and the amazing thing is you can layer more or less, yet still don’t look all cakey and heavy. The concealer is easily blendable and ain’t dry at all in texture. There is no need to tug or pull at those delicate eye areas.

Note that this concealer is not limited to just concealing under eye puffs and dark circles. You can use it to cover facial spots and blemishes as well, although, I must admit I have not tried it for that purpose.

This concealer isn’t all that pricey either and is worth every penny. I believe it costs about $30 here in Australia. For the life of me, I can’t remember as I bought it quite sometime ago. Anyhow, it is a fairly affordable concealer, and the tube lasted for about 5 months for me, which is fairly reasonable.

Review: Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover

takedayoffremover

Description: Totally tugless, two-way makeup remover speeds the departure of hard to remove eye and lip makeup. Dissolves and lifts away long wearing makeup, even waterproof mascara. Non irritating, non stinging. Opthalmologist tested. Appropriate for contact lens wearers.

I got this in one of those Clinique gift packs that comes free with purchase. I had an instant liking for it. If not for it’s price at $35 for a 125ml bottle, I’d actually be thinking seriously about having it as part of my skin care regiment.

It takes off eye makeup fabulously (even waterproof mascara) without hurting my eyes at all. There’s no need to rub and tug much, just a light dab is enough to instantly remove it. It rinsed off well with water.

I can safely say that this is the best eye makeup remover I’ve ever used. I’d really like to consider having it in my regime, but to pay $35 for a remover, is a bit much, I’d say. Having said that, you really don’t need much of the product to remove your makeup. A bit of product and a little wipe is all you need.

Stubborn waterproof mascaras and long lasting eyeliners and eyeshadows are easily removed with no stinging, no burning, no redness, no oiliness, nothing! Pretty great isn’t it?

Great, great product! Stinging price, but it sure does the job well!

Review: Olay Total Effects Serum

totaleffectsserum

Description: New Total Effects Serum helps fight the 7 signs of ageing. With 2x the anti ageing ingredient it holds the secret to your age. It helps fight the 7 signs of ageing.

1. Visibly diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Smoothes skin texture visibly and to the touch.

3. Evens skin tone for younger looking, more balanced colour.

4. Improves surface dullness, giving skin a radiant, healthy glow.

5. Minimizes the appearance of pores.

6. Visibly reduces the appearance of blotches and age spots.

7. Soothes dry skin. Our new serum is designed for daily usage.

You’ll see the benefits immediately and overtime. Its fast absorbing and new greasy. Total Effects Serum is formulated with 2x more concentrated Niacinamide compared to Total Effects Moisturizer.

It contains Olay’s exclusive anti-ageing formulation, VitaNiacin with Vitamin B3, Vitamin E, Pro Vitamin B5. And it’s infused with Olay moisture too, so it could be the only anti aging product you need.

I am pleased to say for a product that costs around $35, this product is pretty good as a rival to all other big brands (big claims) serums! This was the first serum I’ve used as part of my regular routine in a long time. I used it early this year for a few months. When the product finished, I hadn’t repurchased as I wanted to see what else is out there in the market.

I must say having tried a few Olay and Clinique products already now, I’m quite pleased with both and must admit that the results are really quite comparable. I’m thinking of sticking to some Olay products, that is a surefire strategy to save some money!

Okay, back to the serum. I was attracted to this product as I have uneven skin tone and a little sunspot. The serum has a light, non greasy texture. Once I apply this, it goes on smoothly on my face and makes my skin very, very light and smooth.

After using only a bottle, I could see some spots fading slightly. Not gone, but fading, which is a pretty good sign. This product contains no fragrance, which is perfect for me. It looks great underneath makeup too.

You can even use this product on your hands and it’ll make a difference to how smooth and nice it’ll look. I tried. :)

Bottomline is, a pretty decent product at a great price! I’ll definitely try this out again and perhaps keep it in my routine this time.

Review: Clinique Super Moisture Makeup Foundation

supermoisture

Description: Ultra creamy yet refreshingly lightweight makeup goes beyond flaw fixing, acting as an undercover moisture agent for a dewy look. Disguises unevenness. Instantly comforts drier skins. Skin looks soft, radiant all day.

I was hunting around for a foundation a couple of months back and truthfully, I had really wanted the Dior Nude foundation. However, as it costs $75, I thought I’d give something cheaper a fair shot first as I had to keep to a strict budget at that time. Anyhow, in lieu of my recent love affair with all things Clinique, I trudged over to Clinique and the SA there introduced me to this Supermoisture Makeup Foundation, a foundation meant for my skin type.

She provided me with a week’s worth of sample for me to try and having samples of both Dior Nude and Clinique Supermoisture Makeup in hand, I went home and tested both products out throughout the next few weeks until both supplies were depleted. Despite loving both products for similar and various reasons, due to budget considerations, I’ve decided to purchase the Supermoisture Makeup from Clinique for $48. There are about 15 shades all together for this foundation ranging from Very Fair to Olive Dark. The shade I purchased was Warm Caramel.

The texture of this foundation is very creamy though still smooth and lightweight to apply. Though it wonderfully provides moisture to the skin (which is amazing!), it does not feel heavy on the skin at all. It also absorbs quickly and produces a nice and dewy finish as promised. The foundation smoothes nice and well onto my complexion making it look nicely made up in a just right sort of way – not too heavy and not too light either.

I pretty much only touch up on my T-zone slightly after lunchtime usually after almost 6 hours of using the product, which is pretty great!

Packaging-wise is just a simple tube and I dare say that this product will last for some time as I hardly need to use much of it although I apply this foundation on almost daily. It’s also easy to bring this with you when you travel as it is so small and compact and will definitely not spill or open up in your makeup bag.

If you look at the tube closely, you actually might be able to detect a teensy hint of shimmer which sort of helps highlight the face a bit making it look absolutely fresh and radiant!

This foundation has fared very well for me over autumn and winter. I’m hoping it’ll still be a good one for the upcoming scorching summer months in December to February.

I’d say that this is a great foundation for those with dry-combination skin and for those looking for mid-range coverage as this certainly isn’t a heavy foundation, neither is it light. However, the application can be built upon if you wish for heavier coverage. Personally, I feel it looks best applied light and in moderation.

I was certainly pleased with my purchase and would certainly recommend this if you have the same skin type as me.
