Makeup Brushes! Where would a girl be without them? These are the utmost essential tools that every girl must have in their makeup collection, particularly if you’re applying mineral makeup, a good collection of brushes is often THE most important thing to cater a budget for apart from building the actual makeup collection itself. No makeup collection is complete without a good set of quality brushes.

Having said that, my collection of brushes, as you can see from the pic above, is rather small compared to most. However, this is sufficient for my current needs. I hardly use eye makeup, hence the lack of eye brushes. I have only recently started building my brush collection myself as I never felt the need for it until recently when I started on an almost frenzied obsession with mineral makeup. Prior to this, my beauty tool was my finger which I use to blend in my tinted moisturizer. However, I have since discovered the effectiveness of using brushes in the art of blending, powdering and buffing makeup and have been in search of quality brushes ever since.
I have managed to build a small and humble collection, thanks to the existence of mineral makeup companies which made purchasing brushes rather affordable compared to purchasing a single makeup brush for $50 at MAC or any other grand makeup brand for that matter. That is why my humble collection is made up of mostly mineral makeup brushes.
The Body Shop Foundation Brush – AUD 23.95

This was my very first good quality brush purchase. Prior to this, due to extreme stinginess and my “didn’t think brushes were all that important” attitude, I basically had a bunch of brushes from the Manicare range purchased at Priceline which I’ve since discarded.
Anyhow, I love this foundation brush. It is soft and you can feel that it is of high quality. It blends liquid foundation well onto skin.
Signature Minerals Luscious Ultimate Kabuki Brush – USD 16.95

My very first mineral makeup kabuki brush which I purchased alongside my very first mineral makeup order from Signature Minerals. This has become an absolute staple in my brush collection and I absolutely love this. It’s luscious, it’s soft and it is oh so fine. It is made of synthetic hair and you’ll feel absolutely luxurious pampering yourself with this kabuki brush. Trust me, you’ll love it from your very first application.
I have absolutely no idea how it turned out to have that lopsided angle. Perhaps it’s due to extensive pressure that I put on it whilst I’m applying my makeup. Anyhow, it gives beautiful and even coverage. Absolutely gorgeous!
Signature Minerals 7 Pc Synthetic Brush Set – USD 24.95

This set of brushes are extremely soft and equally as luscious as my kabuki brush. I am absolutely in love with all of them – all of my Signature Minerals brushes are an absolute gem and I am utterly elated and happy with them.
The set contains a powder brush, a blush brush, an eyeshadow brush, a crease brush, an angled liner/brow brush, a small shadow/lip brush and a spoolie. They are travel sized brushes made of fine and high quality synthetic hair and are obviously slightly shorter than normal sized brushes. I use all of them as alternates to my full size brushes.
It comes in a black pouch which contains a flap as well as a little pocket for easy storage of your travel size mineral makeup! Perfect for travel!
Everyday Minerals Angled Blush Brush – USD 8

As you can see I love synthetic hair brushes. I feel that they are way softer than natural hair bristles.
Another one of my favorites is this Angled Blush Brush I got from Everyday Minerals. Again, made of synthetic hair, the brush is absolutely soft but is good at picking up the blush pigments. The fact that it is angled makes it so much better as it provides better definition for a proper blush application as well as for a better contoured effect.
I love this so much that I am considering buying another one. Sigh….
Everyday Minerals Long Handled Kabuki – USD 10

My second kabuki brush! This one comes with a long handle for easier and more comfortable application. The synthetic hair on this one isn’t as luscious as my kabuki brush from Signature Minerals but it does the job well of providing even coverage well enough, and is so so so soft on skin.
Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush – USD 10

I hesitated when buying this as I truly didn’t know what to do with it. However, after doing a little research and due to my increasing curiousity at what it really does, I purchased it anyway.
I’ve never regretted my impulsive decision. This is quite a fantastic brush to use to apply a more even and better coverage of both foundation and concealer onto your skin compared to the kabuki brushes. The bristles are reasonably soft and also great for buffing off color when you’ve applied a little bit too much powder on your face.
I mostly use this to brush on an all over face base powder as I feel that this sets the powder well compared to the other brushes.
As you can see I truly love all
of my blushes. I’m glad I have started to build up this collection and now that I have them, I don’t ever think I can live without them. Getting good quality brushes is of extreme importance as not only do they not shed but they also provide a better finish for your makeup application. Oh, and don’t forget to wash them often! I myself wash my brushes with shampoo on a weekly basis and use my alternate set whilst waiting for the other to dry. So it is a good investment to have two sets of each.
I am hoping to build a bigger collection. In time, I probably will and when I have a better collection, I’ll showcase them all again here. Till then….
