Review: Silk Naturals Bronze Beauty Blush

Description: This is a little bit bronze, and a little bit pink with some very subtle plum undertones.

This is slightly shimmery, nothing over the top, but does have a bit of shimmer.

This is for warm tone, suitable for medium beige to medium tan gals – olive, tan, or caramel skin that tans easily.

I was attracted to this blush primarily due to the description. It sounds so intriguing. A little bit bronze, a little bit pink, a teensy bit plum and a dash of shimmer. I mean, blushes almost always have such a standard hue or tone that the mix of this just makes me wonder.

At the same time, I was also apprehensive that the tone might be a bit dark on me. However, because the swatch on Silk Naturals’ website showed a bit more of a pinkish hue, I thought, why not?

So I got the sample at $1.25.

On my skin, the tone appears slightly nude with a little tinge of pink. I can use it as a blush or even as an all over face brightener if I want a slightly bronzed look without being too “bronzed” up. It gives out just a nice healthy glow.

For the cheeks, as with almost all other Silk Naturals blush, since it is fairly light and sheer, I do have to build it up a bit. However, the final effect is often a pleasing one. It gives off a sun-kissed look.

I love to use this to work as it isn’t too showy. Plus using this on the cheeks means I can play with more colors on the eyes or make my lips a notch bit brighter.

It goes best with warm toned or even warmer pink toned lippies.

Bottomline, not a bad blush if you’re looking for just a little hint of color. It’s perfect for days you feel like having a natural, not made up look.

You can get this at Silk Naturals’ website. A sample jar costs $1.25 and a full size one will cost you $6.25.

Review: Everyday Minerals Pick Me Up Pink Face Brightener

Description: A face brightener that gives dull skin a porcelain finish.

I am so in love with this product. I’ve used it almost daily over the past few weeks as I am so happy with the beautiful healthy glow that it gives to my face. The soft pink powder is translucent on skin and makes any skin look good, I reckon.

Trust me, I had my doubts when I bought this online. But since I didn’t need yet another concealer and I wanted to fill out my sample order, I decided to give this one a shot. Boy, was I pleased at the outcome.

All I ever do is fluff a little bit of this soft pink powder all over my face and voila! Instant radiance. With this, maybe I won’t need to spend heaps on Benefit’s Moon Beam/High Beam anymore! ;) It’s a definite bargain for a beautiful finish.

I don’t use much for the effect to be obvious. Just a little dab of the jar and a fluff all over my face will do. One thing though, I use this brightener only with mineral or other powder based foundation. On me, the results seems rather disastrous when used with my You Rebel. It produced a rather cakey effect, which I sure didn’t appreciate.

With any powder based foundation, it should produce brilliant results.

I got this in my free sample kit at Everyday Minerals. You can get a sample for $2.50, a mini for $4.00 and a big jar for $8.00. I’m definitely sold on this one! =)

Review: Silk Naturals Babydoll Shimmer Blush

Description: Babydoll is that cute, innocent pink that you see on a doll’s cheeks. It’s perfect for light to medium toned women, and has just a hint of flattering shimmer. It looks bright in the jar – but it’s because it does have quite a bit of pigment in it. You’ll only need a little bit for a great effect.

I love, love this blush! I never imagined that it will actually look good on me considering my yellow undertones and the fact that this blush is a really deep pink shade, but it miraculously makes my cheeks as dollish and as pretty as can be. =)

It’s a beautiful deep pink blush that has a slight shimmer to it. On my cheeks, the shimmer can hardly be seen but the shade is a real pretty pink. It’s cute, sassy and looks good on with almost any outfit color. I frequently use this to work to brighten up my looks against the boring, neutral and dark suits that I wear to work.

It’s very youthful and provides your face with that very radiant glow. It really does brighten up your face and make you look all perky and healthy. That’s why I like wearing it to work. Makes me look extra sassy and confident. =)

I build the tone gradually as I do not want to over-apply for the risk of having extremely pink cheeks that turns me into a failed Barbie-Doll wannabe. From experience though, a little is all I need for the shade to turn up on my cheeks.

It’s supposed to be a clone to MAC’s Dollymix blush but since I do not have that, I cannot compare. The full size jar costs $6.25 at Silk Naturals whilst the sample jar costs $1.25. At this stage, I’ve only got the sample but I’m definitely getting the full size once this one’s finished!

Bobbi Brown Pink Raspberry Collection Makeover

I had a complimentary makeover for the newly released Pink Raspberry collection done at Bobbi Brown today. Let me tell you how beautiful and pretty the colors are. So barbie doll-ish! =)

Bobbi’s Inspiration: “Raspberry is a brilliant way to wear color. It brings out the natural flush of pink on cheeks. There’s a shade of raspberry for every complexion—from pink to deep raspberry.”

The girl at DJ made me up very well. I really loved the final look! As I like a lighter feel to my makeup, after applying the Vitamin Enriched Face Base ($75) and the Hydrating Eye Cream ($70), she applied their Tinted Moisturizer ($65). I have just recently purchased my very own Vitamin Enriched Face Base and I use this day and night as my moisturizer and I must say after just a week of using it, I really love it! Reviews will come soon. =)

I also love the feel of the Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve had it applied on me twice already and at both times, the feel of it is light and non-cakey. Slightly heavier than wearing mineral foundation of course, but I must admit it has a lighter feel than my Benefit’s You Rebel. I’m thinking of purchasing that someday when I’m done with You Rebel.

From the Pink Raspberry Collection, she applied the Raspberry Rouge Pot ($58) on my lips and cheeks and the Pink Popsicle Gloss ($40) on my lips. The Raspberry Rouge Pot on my cheeks look absolutely radiant and gorgeous. I truly love it! I’m now deliberating whether to get this or not. It is after all a limited edition. The only thing that’s stopping me is the fact that I’ve got a whole entire drawer full of blushes at the moment so adding one more seems like such a wasteful thing to do. But oh! I really so heart this!

I obviously cannot contain myself from not buying anything, so I picked up the Pink Popsicle Gloss as it has such a pretty burst of pink color. It’s gorgeous, I tell you. Reviews and swatches will follow soon! =)

To finish up the look, she applied just a soft brown eyeshadow color, eyeliner and mascara.

Review: Silk Naturals Wish You Were Here Sheer Blush

Description:

Wish You Were Here is a light coral shade – it’s very summery, beachie and fun. It has a slight shimmer and gives you a fresh pop of color. Perfect for medium toned gals with warm or neutral undertones. It can also be worn as eye shadows or on your lips.

The first time I saw this on Silk Naturals website, I just knew I had to have it! The shimmery peachy shade was just so gorgeous that I absolutely fell in love with it at first sight. Since I didn’t have any blush of this shade yet, I was more than happy to give this a shot and so I purchased a sample size at $1.25.

Unfortunately my love affair with this blush ends there. As much as I wished it was there and would appear beautifully on my cheeks, I was disappointed. Believe me when I say that I was elated with joy upon seeing how beautiful the coral shimmer powder was. I tried this over a two week period and gradually build it up day by day to see if it would show on my cheeks and it got to a point when I had used almost quadruple what I normally would use on my cheeks before that pop of peachy shade started appearing on my cheeks. *sigh*

Nevertheless, it is a beautiful shade. Maybe just not meant for my skin tone as my strong yellow undertones probably wiped the whole peachy effect away. Though the description did say it was meant for warm undertone girls. Hmm…again *sigh* Well I guess nothing works on everyone.

I’ve started using this as an all over shade now just so I get some value out of it. As you can tell, I’m in a love-hate relationship with this particular one. I really really am trying so very hard to love it and use it.

As an all over face shade, it looks okay. Well, to be honest, I can’t see the “actual” effect, but the overall effect with my foundation and all looks okay. It just seems to brighten up my face a little bit. So I’d say that it’s probably functional as a highlighter rather than a blush on me.

I’ve even tried it on my eyes. It’s obviously very neutral on my eyes, so its perfect for the office and that’s basically the only place I wear it to.

I tried very hard to make this swatch clear but yeah, since it hardly appears on my skin tone, I really can’t help it. =)

On that note, I will not condemn this product as I really do think the color is gorgeous and I’m sure there are people out there who can wear it beautifully. However, I do think that this is a non-universal color and a color that can probably appear on only a very selected few. It definitely didn’t work for me as a blush but okay as a highlighter and an eyeshadow. So if you have this or are thinking of getting it, play around with it and see which usability suits you best. As I said, you’d either love it or hate it….or maybe even be stuck in the middle like me – desperately trying to love it! :P

Introducing….Indulgent Cosmetics!!

My dearest readers….

Here’s the long awaited announcement on the special project I’ve been working on! I’d like to present to you….

My very own mineral cosmetics company. After months of mulling facts and research over and doing a little number crunching, I’ve decided to plunge in and just do it! So here’s my first effort at being entrepreneurial and indulgent (if I may say so myself) in my passion for all things related to the beauty industry. Having had a play of mineral makeup from the various mineral makeup companies on the Internet, I’ve decided to give myself, my passion and my interest in this business a fair go and put this brainchild of mine out there.

This is the project that’s been taking its toll on me. Many sleepless nights and busy busy days. But….since I have fun doing it, I really do enjoy and take pleasure in this! Apart from this new biz venture, I am also working full time, however, rest assured that whatever queries that you may have in regards to Indulgent Cosmetics or this blog, Indulgent Reviews will be answered in a timely fashion.

I have a few people assisting me with my project, one of them being my beloved sister! So, let’s all toast to the successful creation of Indulgent Cosmetics website! We’re online and open for business people, so browse in and indulge away.

One thing is I have just, just started with this so……as you can see, the collection that I have is so so teensy weensy (two precisely). This company is still in its bubble-wrap stage, but rest assured I do have tons of ideas for it and will develop it even further as time goes by. So have some faith in me, all right? =)

I guess the whole idea behind Indulgent Cosmetics is to make mineral makeup that is currently available in huge masses online swankier, funkier, sexier and just basically something more fun for people to acquaint with and relate to. So in line with my whole concept behind my Indulgent Reviews blog, I pushed for the same character “Diva” to be my company ambassador at Indulgent Cosmetics. I’m still waiting on my character profile design from the designer I’ve engaged for it, but yeah….the whole idea basically revolves around Diva.

I intend to build Indulgent Cosmetics based on a storyboard concept and every single collection will have a storyline that’s based on Diva. So a little Diva mini-book coming up!

So, bear with me whilst I’m building the brand name and the line and do visit Indulgent Cosmetics.

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin C Micro Refiner

Description: A rich and creamy facial exfoliating product with tiny scrub particles that work effectively to deep cleanse and remove dead skin cells, instantly improving skin texture and tone to leave it looking and feeling softer, smoother and more refined and radiant.

Ingredients:

Shea Butter – Moisturizes and help soften the skin

Glycerin – is an effective moisturizer which helps improve softness and maximize hydration

Vitamin C – Vitamin C helps to fight free radical damage and brightens skin, leaving it looking radiant

I’ve wanted to try this for sometime now and I’m glad I finally gave it a shot. According to the sales assistant I spoke to, its fine particles resembles having a microdermabrasion done on yourself. So, sounds good to me. At $29.95 in Australia, its definitely way cheaper than purchasing Origins’ Microdermabrasion Scrub (though I’m still dreaming to give that one a shot).

Anyway, this product is good and truly the answer to microdermabrasion. All you have to do is massage in the fine particles onto your skin and after rinsing it, you’ll be left with super smooth and soft skin. It really sloughs off all those dry patches I developed in winter. Plus the smell’s great – really citrusy – absolutely heavenly. I love citrusy smelling stuff as it really does help make you feel all rejuvenated and fresh.

I can conclude that this product is definitely worth every penny I paid for it. It delivers on smoothness and soft, moisturized skin. As for brightness, hmm….like all products, I can’t safely attest to that, but, oh well, I’m happy with the results it achieved. =)

Review: The Body Shop Lip Scuff

Description: A moisturising lip care product that gently exfoliates the lips to help remove dead skin cells, leaving the lips feeling smooth, soft and conditioned.

Ingredients:

Marula Oil – Marula oil comes from the marula tree, native to Southern Africa. The oil is rich in oleic acid, essential to the maintenance of healthy-looking skin.

Vitamin E – An antioxidant that helps to soften, condition and protect the skin.

Macadamia Oil – Moisturizes the skin

Peppermint Oil -Provides a naturally refreshing menthol scent

Like the rest of my skin, I have very dry lips as well. Its particularly at its’ worst now during winter. So this lip buff at The Body Shop has been a God-sent to me. I only knew of its existence recently though I’m pretty sure it must have been around for quite some time now.

Anyhow, I well and truly love this product! It really does exfoliate dry skin off your lips well and lips feels extremely good and smooth after usage. I can fully attest to that. I was expecting my lips to go drier after using this, but I was pleasantly surprised. My lips feels much softer and there were no chappy dead skin cells on it anymore. So yay!

It does feel rather hard and slightly uncomfortable when scrubbing, but well the results is well worth it in my opinion. I’ve always wanted to have soft silky lips and now I do! =) This product retails for $17.95 in Australia.

I don’t know if it’ll work on everyone and whether everyone’s comfortable scrubbing their lips, but if you’ve ever wanted silky soft lips and have always complained of dry chapped lips like me, then go on and give this product a try. =)
